The validity period of visas extended for foreigners in Sri Lanka

The Department of Immigration and Emigration today announced that the validity period of all categories of visas of all foreigners currently in Sri Lanka will be extended until June 11, 2020.

This is further to the previous notice released by the Department of Immigration and Emigration on 24.04.2020 with regard to the extension of visas for the foreigners residing in Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, the validity period of all types of Visas had been extended for a period of 30 days with effect from 12th May 2020 to 11th June 2020.

Thereby, all the applicants are to pay the relevant visa fee and get the visa endorsed in the Passport by securing an appointment via the following link on or before 11th June 2020: https://eservices.immigration.gov.lk/vs

All the visas which expire between March 7th to June 11th, 2020, will be exempted from charging overstay penalty.

The Department stated that those who possess due Appointment Notice are only be permitted to enter the Department and only a limited number of appointments will be given per day and the applicants are to be present at the Department 15 minutes prior to the allocated time.

However, if an applicant is unable to present at the given time, the appointment becomes invalid after 10 minutes of a grace period. In such circumstances, the applicants shall not be allowed to enter the Department premises and shall obtain a new appointment, added the Department.

If the Government imposes curfew on the date of appointment, clients are not to visit the Department; instead, the clients are to drop an email to the aforementioned email addresses attaching your “Appointment Notice” to be facilitated with a new appointment in due course.

Further, Foreigners who intend to leave the island during the aforementioned period are informed that their journey will be facilitated by paying the relevant visa fee at the Airport.
